Welcome to Umbria! The Italian region of Umbria is one of the smallest in the country. Located in the mountainous regions of central Italy, by the valley of the Tiber River, this tiny sector of Italy thrives in historic tales of medieval flavour. Rich in history and in nature, Umbria offers the Falls of the Marmore, which are the highest in Italy, the Trasimeno lake and the Mount Subasio.

DAY BY DAY ITINERARY

Day 1 - Arrive in Perugia

Arrival at the country farm "La volpe e l'uva" (Perugia, Central Italy, Umbria, near Tuscany) . Check-in your apartment at 4:00pm. Dinner reservations can be made at a restaurant of your choice

Day 2 - Subasio Mountain ( Assisi, Collepino, Spello)
Hands-on cooking class starts around 10:00am. You will prepare a four course lunch that you will eat at the end of the class, accompanied by our wines.
The tour take place from 15.00 to 19.00.The Park of Mount Subasio is formed by the mountain system of the same name that delimits towards north-east and dominates the Valle Umbra from its 1290 m of height. The Subasio is the 'Monte de Assisio' because Assisi and its mountain live a sort of symbiosis lasting since antiquity. The entire historical centre of Assisi lies within the Park. The roads crossing the Park are essentially those which link the historic centres of Assisi and Spello. Leaving Assisi from Porta Perlici, you get to the Park’s headquarter at Ca’ Piombino, continuing you climb up to Costa di Trex from where you reach Spello, crossing the fortified village Collepino.

Day 3- Trasimeno lake ( S. Feliciano, Castiglione del Lago )
Hands-on cooking class starts around 10:00am. You will prepare a four course lunch that you will eat at the end of the class, accompanied by our wines.
The excursion take place from 15.00 to 19.00. Lake Trasimeno is in an idyllic setting surrounded by green rolling hills. The Etruscans were the first civilization to settle around the lake bringing with them their sophisticated culture. In 217BC Hannibal, the Carthaginian general, resoundingly defeated the Roman army on the northern shore of Tuoro sul Trasimeno. During the Middle Ages it came to be known as “Lake Perugia”: as a matter of fact the city of Perugia took control of the small villages dotted around the lake and the lake’s islands in the 12th century, turning them into prosperous towns engaged in the lucrative business of fishing and wheat growing. The charm of the lake was much exploited by painters of the Renaissance, “Il Perugino” in particular. Today it is a favourite resort for both the locals and tourists who enjoy the tranquillity and beauty of the lake and its surroundings.

Day 4 - Mamore waterfall
Hands-on cooking class starts around 10:00am. You will prepare a four course lunch that you will eat at the end of the class, accompanied by our wines. The excursion take place from 15.00 to 19.00. Marmore Falls, with its astonishing beauty, comes into view as a roaring water column divided into 3 falls, covering a drop of 165 metres which wraps up the luxuriant vegetation into a cloud of white foam! Attracting tens of thousands of visitors every year, the waterfalls with a height of 165 metres are the highest in Europe. Legend has it that a beautiful nymph called Nera fell in love with the handsome shepherd Velino. Juno became jealous and as punishment transformed her into a river, which is how the river acquired the name Nera. Velino in order not to loose his beloved threw himself from the Marmore cliff top. This heroic gesture re-enacted by the waterfalls is repeated in eternity. (Extra ticket to the Marmore falls: full price € 5.00  Free admission for Children under 6 years old)
